The spey hackle is made the proper colour by allowing a rusty
orange/brown rump hackle to bleach in the sun. Any other yellow spey
hackle is perfectly acceptable.I like to fish this in water that is surrounded by golden fall foliage. When fishing among maples or other "yellow" leaves the brilliance of the yellow will be filtered out to present a subtle shade and flowing movement to the fish. It is a good colour for the autumn season, and seems to be particularly effective for Steelhead in slightly stained water.
